The Matrix will have us: collaboration of AI and Humans in Metaverse can wipe out Human intelligence. Here is how.
Metaverse — is a collaboration environment.
The metaverse is a term that’s been buzzing around the tech world recently, but what exactly does it mean?
In essence, the metaverse is a virtual reality space where users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users. It’s like an internet brought to life, or a world parallel to our physical one, but accessible through all types of digital devices.
This immersive digital universe can host multiple interconnected realities — augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and even physical reality. It allows for real-time interaction, creating shared experiences that go beyond what’s possible in the physical world.
From attending concerts of your favorite artists to meeting friends for a virtual coffee, from collaborating with colleagues in 3D workspaces to exploring new worlds in video games — the possibilities in the metaverse are endless.
As we continue to push the boundaries of technology and AI, the metaverse represents an exciting leap forward in how we interact with digital spaces. Stay tuned as we journey into this new frontier!
Metaverse is not a place where only humans can interact, but also AI agents.
🤖💼 AI Bots in the Metaverse will revolutionise Digital Interactions 💼🤖
As we venture into the exciting worlds of the metaverse, AI-based bots are set to play a pivotal role. But how exactly will they fit into this new digital landscape?
1️⃣ Personalized Avatars: AI bots can be your personalised digital representatives in the metaverse. They can mimic your preferences and behaviors, attend events on your behalf, or even carry out tasks while you’re offline.
2️⃣ Virtual Assistants: Just as Siri and Alexa have become integral parts of our lives, AI bots in the metaverse can assist with information retrieval, schedule management, and more — all within the context of this immersive digital universe.
3️⃣ Interactive Experiences: AI bots can create dynamic and interactive experiences in the metaverse. From guiding tours in virtual museums to hosting events or games, their roles are only limited by our imagination.
4️⃣ Business Operations: For businesses, AI bots can provide customer service, handle transactions, or even conduct market research in the metaverse. They offer a new way to engage with customers and conduct business operations.
As we continue to explore and shape the metaverse, AI bots will undoubtedly be at the forefront of this revolution, enhancing our interactions and experiences in this burgeoning digital world.
Society of a metaverse — is a combination of different types of intelligence.
Now comes the really interesting part. Imagine, that within the metaverse, one can meet both: real agents — humans, spending their time in metaverse and AI — virtual agent, based on e.g. LLM.
What are the differences between these two? Visually they can be similar, so you never know, if there is a real of virtual agent in front of you.
Still there are differences, especially from the way, how both of them learn, how both of them use the knowledge and how they communicate — all together are components of the Intelligence. Read more on this here: Human Intelligence
- In (human) intelligence input is a passive knowledge (multidimensional sensory embeddings) obtained by sensorics. the main question here is how we will simulate all these feelings and if not, will we consider metaverse as something more meaningful, than a real world? Here comes the Remedy #1: Humans will move in metaverse, only if humans ability to use their sensorics is going to be fulfilled.
- In (AI) intelligence (e.g. LLM) input is a common knowledge, i.e., high-level derivative of passive knowledge generated by active intelligence and verified by society. Here comes Remedy #2: AI based agents, if trained centrally, will always represent one type of knowledge — common knowledge, verified by society and being not able to generate new knowledge without the society — humans.
Now, in order to make AI based agents “different”, like humans, since otherwise, it all would be like the Matrix movie “Part 3: Revolution”, where the whole world became full of similar agents and there was no point in all of them except one and also was no point for humans to communicate with one algorithm, since it can process only common knowledge, that is a priory created by humans.
“The Best Thing About Being Me… There’s So Many ‘Me’s” — agent Smith, The Matrix.
So humans can only use it, but this intelligence cannot generate new abstract ideas, that would develop the known environment, vocabulary etc. IMHO: that is why agent Smith was trying to get into the real world, since our ability to generate new knowledge, from interacting with a real world — is a freedom of a human mind and for this one needs sensorics and multi dimensionality of space around us. Language is just a mechanism within a more complex engine of Intelligence.
“I Believe That, As A Species, Human Beings Define Their Reality Through Misery And Suffering” — agent Smith, The Matrix.
Sensorics — that is what defines human ability for the different types of Intelligence, compared to AI. And due to the borders of space and time and life duration — all humans have their own and unique — individuality. Individuality is simply an effect of the space and time for a human being limited creating a unique pattern of different people. In this case imagine some agent like e.g. “God” — being a collection of all experiences of humans and all common knowledge for the whole time — that would be very similar to the existing AI (LLM) models from the intelligence mechanism perspective. But, without being able to obtain new experiences in a real world, such agent would not be able to evolute and obtain new knowledge. In this case one can consider humans — being the “God’s” sensorics. Like also humans are kind of AI sensorics, since only humans can generate new knowledge to train these models.
Q! And here comes an interesting question, can we build a hybrid model, where so called common knowledge agents, like AI are learning from Humans and humans using AI agents to eliminate space and time barriers and immediately start at the edge of human knowledge?
Diversity of AI agents in Metaverse and hybrid learning — Medici effect of 21st century — ability to have the best match knowledge the moment one needs it to innovate.
Here comes the combination of few things.
- Initialisation of human brain and AI agents and training process are both different. Humans train over time, by collaborating with environment, that incorporates time and space barriers, making humans individual. AI based agent can be trained using a global data set, since it is not exposed to space and time barriers, it is exposed to a risk and speed barriers, e.g. how fast it can be trained and what it learns at the end, since no human can oversee such a volume of information. By training AI based agents in a same way, like humans learn in a real world environment, we can simulate AI individuality, similarly to how it is obtained by humans, creating the diversity of AI agents. Since time in Metaverse is under our control, we can make a time flow for learning of agents significantly faster, to not wait 20 years for them to learn, but than as soon as a new virtual world is created and ready, we can put in humans, switch time to the normal one for human based agents and allow the world to coexist.
- Communication can be off the space and time barriers. What if we cut common knowledge into pieces and try to learn AI (LLMs) like humans do, only via its sensorics in metaverse and only via ability to communicate with other agents let it be humans or other AI agents imposing limits of space and time? In other words, we need to create a digital copy of an earth and provide AI agents with sensorics and let them live and explore the world to learn from it. This would significantly increase the diversity of individuals, allowing us to communicate with different ones, when we need it, talking about AI agents, since these can be cloned. (with humans we can collaborate only a limited amount of time, when they provide it). That would allow a much broader information exchange and would make AI bots more individual and human like.
- “Medici effect” is higher the higher is the society diversity. By fostering the diversity of agents in metaverse, plus an ability to have similar experts at a different places simultaneously (cloned AI agents) one can significantly increase the ability of human agents to use the common knowledge to drive the creation of new abstract ideas — being innovations. Here comes my personal definition of innovation. Innovation — is the abstract idea of a human, that arises in collaboration with a real world and not fitting into the common knowledge of the society, being sold to this society as something, that extends human knowledge and makes collaboration with real world better. We can observe a lot of misleading innovations, that happens because no human has access to the complete Common knowledge, only its pieces. Therefore individual “Abstract ideas”, that went into the part of “Common knowledge” are not necessarily have conflict with the complete “Common knowledge” of the whole society. This explains recent success of Chat GPT 4 Turbo to generate startup ideas, since it kind of has access to the complete Common knowledge.
Summary.
When one asks me about the future of AI, Metaverse and Innovations — I see these things being highly inter connected.
We as humans have beed developing extremely slow, due to the space and time barriers of a real world. We spent millions of years to create the common knowledge, that allowed us to innovate and change the reality around us. By introducing transportation systems and digital products, we literally demolished space and time barriers, that fostered innovation speed to its limit values. Now we are simply reaching the limit of a social based ability to generate Common knowledge and therefore to innovate.
Ability to create new types of agents, based on AI and collaborate with them would allow us to virtually increase the amount of “humans” to any numbers, that would create a new wave of innovation, fostering the creation of new common knowledge.
But, AI is not capable of generating common knowledge, only processing it, like e.g. LLMs do, but can do it extremely efficient, much more efficient, than Humans.
Therefore we need to create mechanisms, where we can collaborate with a different degree of efficiency, but keeping the complete sensorics to be able to see the discrepancies between the Common knowledge and our own abstract ideas. And this world is Metaverse — digital world that will foster the collaboration between Ai based and Human based agents.
Here comes one big discrepancy. If we create the digital world, based on our understanding of physics, math, chemistry, other natural sciences, we will make it out of our Common knowledge about the universe. Now the question, the ability to generate a new knowledge comes from a discrepancy between common knowledge and personal experience with real world, that demonstrates new behaviour types. That means, that this approach, AI agents based Metaverse — will not work for science and generating new knowledge.
Conclusion — Metaverse can be a perfect way to generate tonns of innovations and an extremely successful business case for many companies, it can be also used to control humans, foster the digital consumption instead of the real one, but there is one main aspect, following the philosophy I tried to underline:
“… their minds kept imprisoned in the Matrix, a virtual computer-generated world, to stop them from realising the truth of the real world…” — Morpheus, The Matrix.
trying to stop people from communicating with real world will stop the evolution of Common knowledge.
Metaverse will drive “consumption innovations” like crazy, but an ability of humans or AI to change the world around can be gone.
So the remedy, Robots as well as Humans can generate innovations — new abstract ideas and thus Common knowledge only using the diversity of a Real world.
P.S. And yes, good news at the end of the day are, that AI will not be able to obtain really new knowledge on its own, if humans would be exterminated, so no chance AI kills us, unless it would be fine with what it has)))
